Camellias and citrus in my favorite vase

So apparently this big chunky aluminum urn is my current favorite vase because it keeps reappearing in my apartment window. I like to have something interesting in my front window, as my gigantic bay window is quite visible from the street, and passers by notice and enjoy it.
I helped myself to my parent's mature citrus and camellia plants and brought some back to be featured in the urn in the window.
So fresh!

Camellia: California State Flower!

Daisy and I made a recent quick trip to Sacramento. We like to stop by the State Capital grounds and walk, and things are definitely in bloom. Camellias are the state flower and this tree was so incredible and dense with blossoms!


Even the petals that had fallen and started turning brown were beautiful!

Daisies in South Park

After the party at Classic the daisies still looked fresh so they did double duty in South Park as a marketing tool.
Like I've done many times in the past several years, these little guys were put out on the picnic tables to brighten up a few sunny days and advertise my business.

Yellow, black, and white

Last week Classic Party Rentals had a huge party, (1000+), for people in the industry to come together and to see their new product.
Some of us were asked to design floral pieces and details to embellish the table tops. Here are a few pictures of the table that I did.

Details: yellow fur to top the plexi barstools, name cards out of paint chips and magazine letters, paper flowers to top the favors. Linen swatches of tablecloth and napkins.

I've been getting off on the paper flower tangent lately.
I have a client that was getting flowers every month from her husband, until recently when they decided to cut back on extra treats during these tough times. I wanted to thank them for the biz and show my appreciation, so I made her a long lasting bouquet of paper flowers. She works at the DWR (Design Within Reach) offices downtown so I made her flowers out of a recent DWR catalog!

Valentine's Day!

So Valentine's Day was a success once again!
Every year I get nervous and don't know what to expect, and with this year falling on a rainy Saturday........
Thank you to all of my returning regulars that stopped by and spread the word! And thanks to all the first timers too.
It's always nice to spend the day in South Park and get caught up on what's going on in the hood I've loved for 20-something years! So Friday at Caffe Centro in the park, until the rain started dumping, then the few left over on Saturday at Farley's in Potrero! It pays to be a regular.

Happy Valentine's Day!

keeping it simple

Christmas dinner table I kept simple.
I used containers that I already had and just bought one bunch of carnations and two bunches of paper whites.
For green accents I went in my parent's backyard, cut redwood from their huge tree and made little wreathes to go around chunky candles on white candle holders I have left from a wedding. Green and white, fresh and simple.

Home for the Holidays

Daisy and I made the trip home to family for Christmas. Fortunately it's not far as my parents live in the house I grew up in near Sacramento. It's less than 100 miles, but a world away in many ways.

We stopped by the State Capital on the way into town and wandered around the grounds. The Capital building was decorated simply and tastefully, the Christmas tree was a little predictable but appropriate, especially considering the weather that it had to endure.

Walking under the massive trees I was reminded of when I was a little girl and my mom and I would walk around and pick up the perfect Magnolia leaves to take home and make a wreath. On this day the tree that really stood out was this orange tree, beautifully decorated with endless juicy ornaments.

We saw many oranges in the tree lined streets of midtown and surrounding areas. I realized the day that I took this picture I was wearing a leaf green coat and orange leather gloves. Influenced by Mother Nature who picks the perfect color combinations.

Sacramento is known for it's many trees and varieties and size! Street signs point this out in case you didn't notice.

'tis the season to be resourceful!

In these times of cautious consumption it's still time to celebrate... and decorate!

I've been making resourceful wreaths out of common materials, some that would otherwise end up in the recycle bin.

Offered in 2 sizes: small = 10 inch ring/ approx. 15 inch final for $65.
large = 12 inch ring/ approx. 18 inch final for $75.

Materials include postal paper, holiday sale ads, the Pink Section (Sunday Datebook), and coffee filters.
Shapes are either leaves or rosettes each individually wired and taped.
Made to order. Ribbon and/or bow included if desired.

These would make great host/hostess gifts if you have a party to attend and want to take something unique.....

I guess this means I am going to start blogging. Times they are achangin'! Anyone that knows me at all knows I would rather be doing just about anything but computering. Wiring and taping cut outs of the Pink Section, now that I could do all day!
